The Bute Junior Agricultural Club is joining forces with the island’s NFU Scotland branch this weekend at a stock judging, charity auction and fund-raising dance.

The event, which takes place at Drumachloy farm near Ettrick Bay this Saturday, July 6, is being held to raise money for Calum’s Cabin and Marie Curie Cancer Care – although John Dickson of Scalpsie, the president of the Bute NFUS branch, says that if enough is raised, other good causes could benefit too.

“The Young Farmers brought back a stock judging event last year, after quite a gap, and it was a big success,” John told The Buteman.

“This year is also the hundredth anniversary of the NFU in Scotland, and there are events happening all over the country to mark the occasion and to raise money for charity.

“We’ve chosen two charities this time, but hopefully if enough money is raised we might be able to help others as well as Marie Curie and Calum’s Cabin.”
