This weekend a popular folk duo are preparing to come to play in Rothesay, and it’s a performance music lovers will not want to miss.

Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker are the latest musicians to come to Bute through the work of Transclyde Music.

The pair will entertain an audience at St Paul’s Church Hall in Victoria Street, Rothesay this Saturday, June 25, at 7.30pm.

And organisers are urging anyone interested in attending to buy their tickets early to avoid disappointment as it’s sure to be a popular event.

Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker infuse ageless stories of love and loss with their ageless exquisite command of many instruments.

Whether interpreting words centuries old or singing her own authentic lyrics, Josienne’s jewel-like voice finds the nuance in the simplest phrase and sends it effortlessly, straight to your heart.

While Ben’s musical flair for arrangement provides the perfect setting, allowing the song centre stage.

Josienne was born in Sussex and Ben, in Evesham, but it was after studying in London, and utterly by chance, that they met each other in July 2009. Since then they have worked together, sharing music and they have resolutely found their own path through traditional English music.

So much so, that critical recognition has resulted.

Among the awards they have gained are the Isambard Folk Award, and the FATEA Award for Best Album and Female Vocalist of the Year.

They have also received coveted Radio 2 folk award nominations for Best Newcomers and Best Duo.

Josienne and Ben’s0 first major album together, Fire and Fortune, confirmed their place among the very best folk musicians of their generation.

The release reached number one on the UK Amazon folk chart.

Their Rothesay date comes on the back of a busy period for the musicians, having recently finished a tour around the UK.

But it’s non-stop for them now as they continue to play gigs around the UK and are all set to play the End of the Road Festival in Dorset in September.

Tickets for Saturday’s concert at St Paul’s Church Hall are priced £10.

They are available to buy in advance from Musicker (01700 502287) or Macqueen’s Butchers (01700 502067).
