Shrieks of laughter, warm rounds of applause, enthusiastic singing and loud choruses of “oh, no you’re not!” confirmed that Bute’s 2012 pantomime was a real hit.

Bute Amateur Players’ version of Aladdin played in front of two packed houses at Rothesay Pavilion on Friday and Saturday, when months of hard work by principals, supporting actors, dancers, musicians, front-of-house staff and backstage crew came together to create the perfect festive night out.

In addition to the principal cast members, the show also featured guest slots for the pupils of the local dance schools run by Anne McIlroy and Sam Kean, plus support from a host of kenspeckle characters including Highland lasses, mounted policemen, guardsmen and even pipers - all of whom, along with everyone in the audience, were united in asking one question: when can we do it all again?
