VIDEO: Steve Tilston and Alan Tennie play live in Rothesay

Songsmith Steve Tilston’s name was added to the increasingly impressive list of singer-songwriters to have played live on Bute under the Transclyde Music banner when he took to the stage at Craigmore Bowling Club on Saturday night.

Tilston’s back catalogue stretches all the way back to 1971 - despite a less-than-enthusiastic reception from his father when the young Steve announced his plan to make a living as a professional musician - and his Rothesay set, though inevitably just the briefest of dips into the Tilston archive, made it easy to see why he’s so celebrated both in Britain and abroad.

The video clip above features two of his songs from Saturday’s set - Weeping Willow Replanted, a reworking of an old Blind Boy Fuller blues number, and the Yorkshire folk song The Fisher Lad of Whitby - as well as the stunning Over Sentimental by Saturday’s support artist, Glasgow singer-songwriter Alan Tennie.
