VIDEO: Fund-raising jazz gig at Bute Museum

Local gypsy jazz quartet Les Gitanes provided the music this week at a fund-raising concert at Bute Museum in Rothesay.

The charity gig was organised to raise funds for both the museum itself and the local branch of the RNLI, and saw a large and enthusiastic audience come along to hear Tim Saul, Alec Mack, Keith McIntyre and Paul McKay recapture the sound of 1930s Paris as created by the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt.

The video above features extracts from the group’s performances of two Reinhardt pieces, Artillerie Lourde and Belleville, along with C’est Si Bon, by Henri Betti, and Mar Y Sol, a recent composition by Lulo Reinhardt, Django’s great-nephew, painstakingly transcribed over several weeks by Tim and Paul and which received its first public performance by the group at Wednesday’s gig.
