Young Bute piper Daniel McDermott kicked off another summer of success at the recent Strachur and District annual piping competition.

Daniel, who plays in the Inveraray and District Pipe Band and was recently chosen as one of Rothesay Academy’s 2013-14 school captains, took four first places, one second place and a fourth in the event, winning four trophies and a shield for the best open competitor in the 15-17 years section.

Daniel - who won the junior champion title at the National Piping Centre’s junior piping competition in Glasgow earlier this year - had to enlist the help of his wee sister Alison to help him with his trophies for the picture!

To read more on a successful summer so far for both Daniel and another of Bute’s best exponents of Highland culture, dancer Kirsty Barrett, don’t miss the next issue of The Buteman - on sale from Thursday, August 1.
