Don’t forget to make a note in your diary for this Saturday when Joe Topping and Steve Povey step into the limelight at Craigmore Bowling Club.
Topping, on vocal and guitars, has been described as “a cross between Ry Cooder, Woody Guthrie and Paul Brady”; growing up in the American folk scene, his music has also been influenced by Americana and blues from around his native land, on adventures which have included living in a pick-up truck and driving around the US for the best part of a year, and walking 1,400 miles from Chicago to New Orleans with a guitar on his back.
His own unique bottleneck guitar style, and a voice that can move effortlessly from velvet soft to steely and powerful, makes Topping an artist not to be missed.
With him on pedal steel will be Scott Poley, a producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Liverpool who has been playing with top British musicians since the age of 18 on pedal steel, lap steel, mandolin and most recently on the Dobro, an American wood-bodied, single-cone resonator guitar.
Tickets for Saturday’s gig, priced £10, are available from Macqueen’s butchers on (01700) 502067 or Muiscker cafe on (01700) 502287.
