Jazz-lovers are in for a real treat this weekend, as two musical talents are set to take the stage at Victoria Hotel on Sunday, December 7.
Award-winning Nova Scotia Jazz Band clarinet player John Burgess will undoubtedly wow the Rothesay audience, while local group Les Gitanes will also be making an appearance.
John has played all over the UK and Europe, recorded 12 albums as a leader, and has played sessions on radio and television to national audiences. In recent years John has returned to his roots and his beloved New Orleans/Chicago jazz and spends most of his time playing music from the golden age of jazz.
Les Gitanes, which comprises Tim Saul, Alec Mack, Keith McIntyre and Paul McKay, are hot off a fund-raising performance at Bute Museum in aid of the RNLI and the museum itself. The gypsy jazz quartet play in the tradition of Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club Quintet of France, and have quickly become firm favourites in the island’s jazz scene.
Tickets are £10 and available from Victoria Hotel and Brechin’s on Bridgend Street, and the gig begins at 2.30pm.
