The first concert in the Isle of Bute Jazz Festival’s 2013-14 winter series sees Gitane Ecosse play live in Rothesay on Sunday, September 1.

The band comprises Alan Gow and the Polish duo of Ricardo Wisniewski and Dariusz Szoma on guitar, Andy Whiteford on saxophone and another Pole, Janek Drewniak, on bass.

Formed after Ricardo and Dariusz joined in on a gypsy jazz jam session at the ‘Hot Club of Glasgow’, founded by Alan, the band has a simple aim: to play the best and most authentic gypsy jazz in and around Scotland, faithfully recreating the sound of the Hot Club of France on a summer’s night in 1930s Montmartre.

Gitane Ecosse are live at the Victoria Hotel on September 1 at 2.30pm: for more details check out the next issue of The Buteman, on sale from Friday, August 29.
