Bute Arts Society is set to welcome its final act of the 2014-15 session on Friday, March 6 - Gildas String Quartet.

Comprising Christopher Jones, Gemma Sharples, Kay Stephen, and Anna Menzies, the quartet is fast establishing itself as one of the most exciting young ensembles to emerge in recent years.

Winners of a Tunnell Trust Concert Award, the group has performed widely across both the UK and Europe, and has had the honour of working with prestigious composers Colin Matthews and Sir Harrison Birtwistle on their most recent string quartets at the Southbank Centre and the Forge in Camden.

Since its formation the quartet has worked closely with violinist and conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy, studying both privately and in public masterclasses, including for the Friends of the Verbier Festival and at the Geneva Conservatoire. They were invited as the only UK-based quartet to participate in an inspirational week of masterclasses on the quartets of Bela Bartòk, led by Gabor Takács and Sandor Davić of the original

Bartok Quartet.

The concert will be held in the assembly hall of Rothesay Joint Campus on Friday, March 6. Admission is charged at £7 (free to students) and the performance will begin promptly at 7.30pm.
