Ten Rothesay Academy pupils will compete for the title of the Rotary Club of Rothesay’s Young Musician of the Year when the annual competition is held next week.
This year’s crop of hopefuls will all be aiming to follow in the footsteps of 2013 winners Tia Nicholson and Daniel Sweet, who each progressed to the district finals in Glasgow after their success in the instrumental and vocal categories respectively last year.
There will once again be two categories in this year’s competition, in which the winners will earn the opportunity to compete in the district finals of the UK-wide competition, being held at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow in the new year.
Donald Kinnear from the Rotary Club of Rothesay said: “No matter how well one plays or sings in private it is a totally different situation when you have to stand up in front of an audience and all these young competitors are to be applauded for their faith in their musical abilities.”
The competition takes place in the assembly hall at Rothesay Joint Campus on Thursday, December 4 at 7pm. Entry is free, but donations may be made on the night to Rotary charities.
