The Bute Community Swing Band is appearing on the Isle of Bute Jazz Festival bill for the first time.

Music fans on Bute and beyond will find a new local name on the bill at the island’s annual jazz festival next month.

The Bute Community Swing Band, part of the Bute Community Band, will play at Rothesay Pavilion on the afternoon of Saturday, May 2.

The swing band has performed short sets at BCB’s own concerts in the past, but their gig at the festival will be the swing band’s first in its own right.

Formed in 2012, BCB, under the musical direction of Tony Spencer, who previously organised Academy Swing, the swing band of Rothesay Academy, provides an opportunity for music-making for all comers, with performance opportunities for adult players and younger musicians alike.

* There are several ‘new’ bands appearing on the Isle of Bute Jazz Festival bill for the first time at this year’s event, which runs from May 1-4 - for more details see the April 17 issue of The Buteman, on sale now.
