Details of the Isle of Bute Jazz Festival’s new series of monthly Sunday afternoon winter sessions at the Victoria Hotel in Rothesay have been announced.

Kicking things off on Sunday, October 4, is one of the UK’s greatest jazz musicians, Bobby Wishart, accompanied by island-based group, the Tim Saul Quartet.

Bobby, who is well-known on Bute from his performances at the island’s annual jazz festival, has previously wowed audiences with his skill on tenor saxophone and flute, and will undoubtedly set the bar high for the remaining jazz sessions during the winter months.

Bobby will be followed by Rose Room on November 1, Jazzmain on December 6, the Tim Saul Quartet and guests in the traditional New Year Jazz gig on January 2, the Deke McGee Band on February 7, and John Burgess and Les Gitanes on March 6.

All of those gigs - which start at 2.30pm - will well prepare local jazz lovers for the 2016 Isle of Bute Jazz Festival, which takes place from April 29 to May 3 at various locations across the island.

Tickets for the winter jazz can be purchased in advance from the Victoria Hotel (01700) 500016, from Brechin’s On Bridgend Street, (01700) 502922, or at the door, but be warned - concerts are popular, so the advice is to get them early.
