Bute’s community band has received a funding boost in the form of a donation of £500 from the Argyll and Bute Trust.

The trust’s chair, Rothesay resident Dan Edgar, presented the funds to band chairman John Blick this week.

John said: “We’re hugely grateful to the Trust for approving this very kind donation to our funds.”

Dan added: “Donations like this are what the trust is here for - helping organisations like the Bute Community Band is what we’re all about.”

The concert band, which was set up in 2011 and now has more than 20 woodwind, percussion and brass players, plans to use the money to meet part of the cost of buying a tuba - the first instrument to be directly owned by the band - and of transporting it to the island.
