The Bute Community Band will provide the music this weekend in the first of a new series of open-air performances at the Montague Street gardens in Rothesay’s town centre.

The band’s performance, at 1pm on Sunday, August 16, is the first public entertainment event to be held in the space since the island’s destination marketing organisation, VisitBute, secured funding to organise and promote a series of performances at the venue.

VisitBute was awarded £2,850 from Argyll and Bute Council’s third sector grants fund in April of this year to design and deliver a programme of entertainment with local performers, making the most of the new performance area.

The revamp of the garden space was completed in August 2013 at a cost of £100,000, using money which was set aside for an ‘amenity services’ project after being diverted from its original purpose - upgrading the little-used public toilets at the public park in Rothesay’s High Street.
