The 2013 Isle of Bute Jazz Festival got under way on Friday afternoon with the first in a programme of more than 30 sessions taking place around the island over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Among the first bands to take to the stage were Al Fresco, featuring the enigmatic Konrad Wisniewski on saxophone, whose set at the Glenburn Hotel majored on contemporary jazz funk and included Green Tea by John Scofield and Mike Stern’s Nothing Personal.

Single session and weekend tickets can be purchased from the festival ticket office in Guildford Square in the centre of Rothesay; in addition to the indoor sessions, the festival programme also features a brolly parade through the centre of the town on Saturday morning, a jazz praise service at the United Church of Bute on Sunday morning and a family picnic at Rothesay Castle on Sunday afternoon.
