Rothesay’s Skeoch Woods are to be transformed into a magical fairy wonderland this weekend - and your help is needed to do it.
Jessica Herriot from Wood Watch Heritage Bute and Angela Callaghan from Bute Oasis are teaming up this Saturday, August 29, to make homes for fairies and elves amid one of the island’s favourite woodlands.
Their aim is to prepare the woods for a lantern parade at the end of September, bringing back an event which was a favourite feature of the Rothesay and Glasgow autumn holiday weekend in years gone by.
“We’re trying to get back to the way the woodlands used to be,” Angela said. “Many years ago there used to be a big lantern parade through the woods and we’re planning to do that again in September.
“This Saturday we’re hoping to get children and adults along to decorate trees by turning them into the entrances to fairies’ homes.
“We’ll have picnic stuff, toasted marshmallows and storytelling as well as creating decorations for the trees.”
This Saturday’s event takes place from 4.30pm onwards, and children and families who would like to take part should meet at the Argyle Terrace entrance to the woods.
