Bute residents who own First World War artefacts - or even just have an interest in what came to be known as ‘the Great War’ - are being invited to a roadshow event in Rothesay next month.

The event takes place on Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5 at Rothesay Library in the town’s Stuart Street.

The first part of the event featuers a talk at 7pm on on the Friday evening by historian Yvonne McEwen from the University of Edinburgh, an expert in family and military history and director of the Scotland’s War project.

Scotland’s War is a web initiative aimed at building up an online picture of the contributions and sacrifices made by the people of Scotland, and by the Scottish diaspora, during the conflict.

With that in mind, for the second part of the event, from 10am to 1pm on the Saturday, islanders are being invited to bring along family stories, artefacts and phictures from the front line or the home front.

In return you’ll receive free expert help in identifying items, learn how to find free information online and much more.
