Maria Balshaw had accepted the position of chair-elect of the proposed new charity to run the new-look Rothesay Pavilion - but has now told the project board she is no longer able to take the job.

The new chair-elect of the charity being set up to run the restored Rothesay Pavilion has decided she is no longer able to take the job.

A spokesperson for Argyll and Bute Council confirmed: “The chair-elect is no longer in a position to accept the role of chair. The board are currently exploring other options.”

Ms Balshaw is the director of Manchester City Galleries and of the Whitworth Art Gallery at the University of Manchester.

She was previously director of development and external relations at Arts Council: West Midlands and director of Creative Partnerships: Birmingham, and held academic posts in Birmingham and Northampton before moving into the cultural sector.
