The arts and crafts community on Bute is being asked to express an interest in a plan for a new studio space in the centre of Rothesay.

Island resident Patricia Wallace wants to know whether there is sufficient interest to pursue an idea of setting up a combined studio facility and exhibition space in a former shop unit in the town.

Members of the public would be able to see some of the island’s artists and craftspeople in action and to view and buy their works.

“There are very few spaces for artists and craftspeople on the island to exhibit their work permanently,” Patricia told The Buteman.

“My idea is that people would rent part of the space and could do what they want with it. I’m not looking to make a profit - as long as it makes enough to cover the cost of the overheads I’ll be happy.

“If it takes off I think it could be a marvellous thing for the island.”
