Weel-kent Rothesay resident Jenny Brown has shared her memories of an appearance on Cilla Black’s Blind Date show following the death of the TV personality this week.

Jenny - best known in Rothesay for her jazz singing, and from her role as the Isle of Bute Jazz Festival’s street parade marshal every May - appeared on the ITV programme on March 20, 1999, in an occasional slot dedicated to older contestants.

And while more than 16 years may have passed since her moment in the spotlight, Jenny’s memories of Cilla - who died aged 72 at her holiday home in Spain on Saturday, August 1 - are as fresh as ever.

“I was watching an episode of the programme for older people,” Jenny said, “and when they told you at the end how to apply, me being me, I thought ‘I could do that’.

“Cilla was a lovely person. She spoke to me so nicely, and she said she loved my outfit. She put us all at our ease right away.”
