The people of Bute have been sharing World War I memories at a drop-in event in Rothesay.

The event at Rothesay Library, where people were encouraged to bring in their families’ memorabilia from World War I, was organised with help from Yvonne McEwen, a war and family historian at the University of Edinburgh.

Some of the items to be recorded included a New Testament bible that belonged to a sailor on HMS Warspite, and a miniature book of Robert Burns’ poetry from the time of the war.

Ms McEwen said: “People often worry that the items they bring in are only small, but those small things tell a part of the big story.”
