Pupils from Rothesay Academy will perform the results of a creative writing workshop with two top authors at a public event next week.

The ‘open mic’ event, at Rothesay Library at 7pm on Wednesday, April 8, follows a month-long course on storytelling and creative writing at the school, led by Lisa O’Donnell and Carly Brown.

Lisa, who grew up in Rothesay and went to school at the Academy, is the author of the hit novels Closed Doors and The Death of Bees, while Carly, an American writer based in Scotland, is a leading exponent of ‘slam poetry’ - the reading by poets of original works in front of an audience of judges, with the performer’s manner and enthusiasm as important as content or style in the assessment of their performance.

In addition to the pupils’ readings of their own work, next Wednesday’s event, which is free of charge and open to all, will also feature a ‘slam poetry’ performance by Carly - something we’re assured is not to be missed!
