Pupils of Rothesay Primary spent their Wednesday afternoon transforming into sperm whales, diving to the depths of the ocean, and using whale-song to locate their peers.

We should probably explain that this wildlife ‘performance’ formed part of the visit by Zoologist Nicola and children’s author, Nicola Davies.

The talk, which is part of the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour run by the Scottish Book Trust, saw the award-winning author tell the P4 and P5 children about her experiences of watching and studying animals, and based on the pupils’ reactions, they thoroughly enjoyed her lively tales from the wild.

Pupils were also delighted to be able to purchase from Nicola’s series of stories, which included Whale Boy (shortlisted for Blue Peter Award 2014), The Lion Who Stole My Arm (Portsmouth Book Prize 2014) and The Promise (English Society Award 2014).
