Bute Tale Spinners (creative writing group) met at Kilchattan Bay Community Orchard on October 2 to pay tribute to their late member, Barbro Pattie and to dedicate an apple tree to her memory.

Barbro, who died in January of last year, was Swedish by birth and had raised her family in the South of England before returning to Bute with her late husband, Bill Pattie, who belonged to a well-known Kilchattan Bay family.

Tributes were paid to Barbro’s gentle and imaginative nature by hanging to the branches of the tree, paper leaves which expressed the groups personal thoughts and quoted some of Barbro’s poetry.

Barbro’s Swedish name means ‘bare bridge’ - so the permanent dedication on her tree reads:

Weightless, Your spirit crossed the Bare Bridge, Leaving your light, In our heartsʼ
