A fetching selection of festive fashions was on show on Bute on Friday as the island lent its support to the third annual ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ run by the Save the Children charity.

At both Apple Tree Nursery and Rothesay Primary School, children and staff sported an eye-catching - and just occasionally eye-watering - array of Yuletide sweaters to help support the national charity’s fund-raiser.

In return for sporting the must-have Christmas wardrobe item of this and recent festive seasons, the charity asked adults for a suggested donation of £2 - enough to buy potentially life-saving antibiotics to treat three newborn babies fighting infections - and suggested a £1 donation for children.

This year’s national appeal has been boosted by a pledge from the UK government to match every pound donated by the public.
