VIDEO: Penman’s Jazzmen in concert on Bute

Waiting for Video...

One of Scotland’s foremost traditional jazz bands took to the stage in Rothesay on Sunday afternoon.

Penman’s Jazzmen were the featured act in the latest in the series of monthly ‘Jazz at the Vic’ winter concerts organised by the Isle of Bute Jazz Festival and hosted by the Victoria Hotel.

Formed in 1959 as the George Penman Jazzmen, the band has been an ever-present at Bute’s annual jazz extravaganza since its inception in 1988, and has continued to perform all over the country despite the sad passing of George Penman himself in 2009.

Our video clip shows the band performing the trad standard Doctor Jazz, written by Joe ‘King’ Oliver in 1926, with vocals by the group’s trombonist, George Kidd.
