Singer-songwriter Nick Harper left a capacity Bute audience spellbound after a stunning live set at Craigmore Bowling Club in Rothesay on Saturday.

Harper, a former bandmate of Glenn Tilbrook in Squeeze, showed off his distinctive, soulful voice, his mesmerising guitar playing and his ability to capture almost any mood in his writing, from light-hearted whimsy to blistering anger and declarations of love, at a gig which was over all too quickly.

This video features brief highlights from his set on Saturday - ‘Two Way Thing’ from his 1998 album Smithereens, ‘Evo Morales, a tribute to the eponymous Bolivian preside,t and a cover version combining Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love and Elivs Presley’s Guitar Man.

There’s also a short clip of Saturday’s support act, Glasgow singer-songwriter Alan Tennie, performing the brand new ‘Are You Having Fun’, composed just a few hours before the gig.
