VIDEO: Ballianlay kicks off Bute’s Burns supper season

Waiting for Video...

Bute’s annual tribute to the life and work of Robert Burns began on Monday night with the eagerly-awaited Burns supper at Ballianlay Hall.

Tickets, as ever, were in high demand for the chance to enjoy a tribute to the ‘ploughman poet’ - and the cooking of the ladies from Ballianlay SWRI.

The top table at this year’s supper comprised chairman Bert Alexander, Ellis Rutherford (Immortal Memory), Billy Sprowl (Address to a Haggis and other recitations), Douglas Lyle (Toast to the Lassies), Jean Moffat (Reply to the Toast to the Lassies) and Ballianlay SWRI president Meg Young, while musical entertainment was provided by piper Daniel McDermott and by Jimmy Duncan and John Morrison from the Bute Ceilidh Band.

This short video shows Daniel piping in the haggis, borne by Mhairi Hunter, and Billy Sprowl giving the last two verses of the Address to a Haggis.
