The national launch of an exhibition combining modern technology with archaeology was held at Rothesay Library on Friday.

‘Homeland Argyll and Bute’ shows off the results of a project of the same name undertaken on Bute and Islay by Archaeology Scotland and Paul Duffy of Bute firm Brandanii Archaeology and Heritage.

The exhibition includes a series of short films of archaeological work at sites on both islands shown via a variety of projection methods - one on a traditional screen, one using a nifty hand-held projector and one even using a projector powered by exercise bike!

Curator Catherine Gillies said: “This isn’t Disney/Pixar, and it isn’t meant to be. It’s community film, made by the community for the community.

“The whole project has new toys wrapped around old stories and the combination of old and new is very much at the heart of it.”

The exhibition is on show at Rothesay Library until April 18, after which it will begin a tour of venues throughout Argyll and Bute and beyond during the rest of the year.
