Daniel Sweet and Tia Nicholson took part in the area final of Rotary's Young Musician of the Year competition in Glasgow on March 29.

Two Rothesay Academy pupils travelled to Glasgow on Saturday to compete in the district final of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year competition.

Singer Daniel Sweet and clarinettist Tia Nicholson made the trip after winning the vocal and instrumental categories of the local competition run by the Rotary Club of Rothesay last October.

Daniel sang A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square and Michael Buble’s Haven’t Met You Yet, while Tia performed two very difficult pieces, the slow movement from Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and the Fantasiestucke by Schumann.

With 30 competitors and only three reaching the play-off from each section, both Tia and Daniel were among those to miss out on a place in the regional final from Scotland and the north of England - but hopefully will look back on the event as enjoyable and as a beneficial experience.
