Plans for a youth theatre group are being set in motion this week, as a result of a growing demand for drama opportunities on Bute.
Youngsters who attend Achievement Bute who’ve been bitten by the acting bug are keen to produce shows throughout the year, from on-stage plays to street-theatre performances, and seeks to involve children from P1 right through to secondary.
Dorothy MacDonald, manager of Achievement Bute, told us: “After our pantomime at Christmas we kept hearing from the children that they want to do more drama, and so we’ve decided to start an after-school theatre group.”
Suggestions which have been put forward so far include pop-up theatre, improvisation, flash mobs and even a radio play.
At present, there are two core groups of children - one for P1-7, one for secondary pupils - and each has been brainstorming ideas for their new theatre group, cleverly named ‘Lost the Plot’.
For the next eight weeks, youngsters interested in getting involved in youth theatre are invited to attend sessions in Rothesay Pavilion. Please contact Dorothy McDonald on (01700) 505558 to register your interest.
