Bute’s annual indoor football tournament at Rothesay Pavilion is “a major obstacle” to plans for the revamp of the historic building.

That’s the view of Councillor Ellen Morton, the depute leader of Argyll and Bute Council, who held talks on the Pavilion’s future during a fact-finding visit to the island last week.

“I think the indoor football is a major obstacle to the plans for the building going ahead,” Cllr Morton told The Buteman.

“There’s no point deluding people. We’re looking for millions of pounds from organisations interested in heritage. Those organisations are not looking at investing £7 million in an indoor football pitch. If we sell it as that, we won’t get that kind of money.”
