Numbers remained small for the Winter League tournament last Saturday at Bute Golf Club.

The overall winner was Leighton Thomas with 41 Stableford points. A very consistent scorecard gave Leighton 37 points on the outward half, followed by 36 points for the second 9.

Leighton’s gross score was 73.

In second place was last week’s winner, Graham McArthur, with two halves of 20 points. Graham had birdie 3s at the 9th and 10 holes, helping him to a gross score of 69 (35+34), the best of the day.

Also on 40 points was Duncan Speirs, again with two halves of 20 points. A gross 71 was compiled from halves of 36 and 35, including a birdie at the 17th.

Other helpful scores at this early stage of the competition were posted by Pat McDonald with 38 points and Richie More with 37.

The third round of the competition takes place this Saturday with the usual morning draw for partners.
