A birdie three at the opening hole gave Stuart Wilson a flying start on his way to victory in Bute Golf Club’s April medal last Saturday.
The 15-handicapper had only one significant lapse on his card -- a triple-bogey at the par-four fifth -- as he coped well with difficult weather conditions to finish clear of the field on net 66.
While others faltered in the wind and rain which swept Kingarth throughout the morning round Wilson battled on to lead second class by two shots with Richie Smith (19) runner-up on net 68. John McBride (13) was in third place with a 71 while Steve Neilson (17) was fourth on 77.
