Week four of this year’s winter league, sponsored by Stuart Strathie of Ambrisbeg Quarry, was a battle between last year’s winners Jimmy Crawford and Gary Steele against probably the most successful pairing in recent years, George Reynolds and Allan Smith.
With both pairs tied on 44 points the winner was decided on the better back nine with George and Allan coming out on top with 25 points compared to 23 from Gary and Jimmy.
It was always going to be hard to beat George and Allan on the back nine as the pair scored four consecutive birdies from the 14th hole to the 17th, followed by a net birdie at the last hole for a total of eighteen points for the last six holes.
Third place, with 42 points, went to Stuart Strathie and Allan Laughlan - the most popular score of 36 points was scored by no fewer than six pairings.
Again this week, no two was scored at the 4th hole and there was only one two scored at the other nominated hole, the 11th, by the new pairing for this year, Bob McKechnie and Donnie McDermid.
