THREE proved the magic number for the Rothesay Golf Club team who triumphed in Sunday’s Inter-Pub Trophy competition over their home course.
The Rothesay Golf Club 3 team, comprising Steve Maher, Richard Cuthbertson, Shaun Kernaghan, Craig and Alan Lauchlan and Malcolm Brown, tied with the Galatea Bar team of Alex Greer, David Greer, Graham McArthur, Bob Sutherland, Gerry McGuigan and Ian McKay in the fight for first place after both teams posted a ‘best four scores’ total of 273, with a better fifth score – Shaun’s 76 against Ian’s 83 – giving the ‘home’ team the top prize.
The final podium place went to the Rothesay Golf Club 2 team of Michael Murty, Michael Dodds, Henry Tait, Hughie Charker, Jimmy Milliken and Craig Charker, who finished three shots behind the winners on 276.
The top individual score in the popular event, sponsored by Heineken, was posted by Willie Glen of the Black Bull, who was the best of three players tied on net scores of 63, ahead of Gerry McGuigan and Craig Charker.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by Donald Standaloft at the eighth hole, Robert Cassidy at the 11th, Angus Murray at the 13th and recent Senior Open winner Stan Gaston at the 18th.
