SLIDESHOW: Bute Rugby Club see off shinty challenge - just!

Bute Rugby Club survived a spirited challenge to win a keenly-contested friendly 14-12 against Bute Shinty Club in Rothesay on Saturday.

In front of a big crowd keen to see how the island’s reformed rugby club would deal with the threat posed by players more used to wielding camans than handling oval balls, the shinty club - boosted by the rugby knowledge of their coach David McVey and players Graham Cameron and Robin Reid - threatened an upset by twice taking the lead with tries early in the first and second halves.

Bute Shinty Club's John Beattie lunges for the ball under pressure from Bute Rugby Club's Paul McBride and Sam Lawrie.
