Bute Shinty Club’s second team coach hailed his young players after guiding his charges snatch a dramatic 5-4 win away to Tayforth on the opening day of the 2015 season on Saturday.

David Kilpatrick was unsurprisingly a delighted man after watching his team battle back from 3-0 down to secure full points at a windswept Musselburgh, thanks to double strikes from James Dunn and Neil McKirdy and a single from Craig MacKay -and an injury-time penalty miss from the hosts.

“It’s the young boys’ team this year,” Kilpatrick told The Buteman.

“They saved the club last year by turning out every week, and you can see now that they’re stronger, more mature and more physically fit - they were going in and winning 50-50 balls on Saturday which they might not have been expected to compete for last year.”
