Two teams representing Bute Shinty Club took part in the first round of the inaugural Cowal and Bute Winter Shinty League in Dunoon on Sunday.

The P5 and under team, comprising Calum McMillan, Robin McAlister, Gordon Currie, Rory McDonald, Jack McKirdy and Aiden McGregor, sit top of their age group section after drawing against Kyles and beating Dunoon, Strachur and Sandbank, scoring 11 goals and conceding three along the way.

The P7 and under team - Thomas Morrison, Andrew McLachlan, Josh Cowan, Scott Harvey, Carrie McGorm and Campbell Crichton - played five games, losing narrowly to strong Kyles and Inveraray opponents but defeating Strachur and the Dunoon A and B teams.

With 13 goals scored and eight conceded, the team sit third in their section behind Kyles and Inveraray - though both Bute sides showed plenty of promise during the day, the first time the two teams have played together as units.

The next round of the competition will be played at Rothesay Pavilion on January 11, with the final round in Dunoon on February 8. The winning teams in both age groups will go forward to the national finals in Fort William later in the year.
