Hopes of seeing some 2014 shinty action on Bute have been dashed - again - after the island club’s second team game at home to Glasgow Mid Argyll on March 15 was postponed.

A rare week of largely dry weather on Bute had raised hopes that the Meadows in Rothesay would be able to host its first match of the year, but more rain on Friday night and Saturday morning left the pitch unplayable.

It’s the third week in a row that bad weather has put paid to a Rothesay shinty fixture, with the Bute first team’s game against Kilmallie on March 1 and their second team counterparts’ derby clash with Col Glen seven days later having previously been added to the sport’s lengthy list of early season postponements.

* Bute’s first team game on Saturday away to Fort William in the new National Division was also called off because Bute were unable to field a team for the fixture. The match will be rescheduled to a later date.
