The Camanachd Association's board will reach a decision on Friday on shinty's new league structure from 2014 onwards.

Shinty’s new league structure will be unveiled at the Camanachd Association’s general meeting on Friday.

Six options, most featuring the introduction of a National Premiership 2 below the current Premiership, will be considered by the Association’s board earlier in the day and communicated to clubs at the meeting in Fort William.

The new set-up will be brought in from the start of the 2014 season.

Nearly 60 responses were received to a questionnaire sent to all clubs and posted on the CA website and on social media, with two thirds of clubs responding to the call for views.

Five of the six proposals suggest a ‘Premiership 2’ of either eight, ten or 15 teams; in each of those five proposals, Bute Shinty Club’s first team would be placed in Premiership 2, with the Bute second team placed in the bottom tier of the game in the south - known variously as South Reserve 1, South Regional 1 or South Regionsl 2.

The outcome of a proposal to change the current ‘named ten players’ rule to ‘any six from ten for league matches’ will also be announced at Friday evening’s meeting, where the draws for the 2013 MacTavish Cup, Sutherland Cup, Balliemore Cup, Bullough and Cup and Strathdearn Cup will be made.
