Ted McDonald has been appointed as the new manager of Bute Shinty Club’s senior team.

McDonald, previously a highly-respected referee, will lead a year of rebuilding after the team finished bottom of the sport’s National Division at the end of a miserable 2014 season, with just one win and one draw to show for their league efforts.

Shortly after accepting the nomination at the club’s AGM, held in Rothesay on Friday night, McDonald said: “I would like to think the players will show the commitment required in the new season. Let’s start again and move on.”

Bute’s first team will compete in South Division One in 2015, having turned down the chance to retain their place in the National Division after league reconstruction measures were agreed at the Camanachd Association’s annual meeting in November.

David Kilpatrick was re-appointed as coach of the Bute second team, which will once again compete in South Division Two, while Kevin Queen and John McIntyre agreed to continue for a second year as first and second team captains respectively.

The 2015 league campaign gets under way at the beginning of March.
