Bute Shinty Club’s first team have been drawn at home to local rivals Kyles Athletic in the first round of the 2013 Artemis Macaulay Cup.

The draw, made in Oban on Saturday evening, could hardly have been tougher on the island team, who were relegated from the Premiership this year and look set to face a transitional season in 2013 after the retiral of a number of experienced players.

Kyles, by contrast, are widely expected to go into the new season on a high after winning the Camanachd Cup and finishing runners-up to Newtonmore in the league.

The winners of the tie will be away to either Glenorchy or Oban Camanachd in the south quarter-finals.

The full draw for the competition, which will be played in its usual regional format, with north and south teams kept apart until the final, is as follows.

South first round: Bute v Kyles Athletic, Oban Celtic v Taynuilt, Glenorchy v Oban Camanachd, Inveraray v Glasgow Mid Argyll.

South quarter-finals: Oban Celtic/Taynuilt v Inveraray/GMA, Glenorchy/Oban Camanachd v Bute/Kyles Athletic.

North first round: Fort William v Kilmallie, Kingussie v Kinlochshiel, Lovat v Glenurquhart, Newtonmore v Lochaber.
