Bute Shinty Club’s 2015 fixture list became a little bit clearer this week after the draws were made for five of the new season’s cup competitions.

And the draws have been relatively kind to the island club, who will have home advantage in all of the three tournaments in which they are involved.

In the Balliemore Cup, Bute’s first team - winners of the trophy five times, most recently in 2013 - will be at home to Skye in the first round on April 11, with a quarter-final at home to Kilmallie or Kilmory awaiting the winners.

The other two cup draws on Monday both involved Bute’s second team, who were handed a home tie against Kinlochshiel in the first round of the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup on April 11, with the winners hosting Strathspey or Fort William on May 2.

In the Bullough Cup, meanwhile, Bute will be at home to Inveraray in round one on May 16, with a home tie against either Ballachulish or the newly-formed Oban Lorn the reward for the victors.

The draws for the Mactavish and Strathdearn Cups were also made on Monday, though these tournaments involve only teams from the northern half of the country.

The sport’s complete 2015 fixture list, incorporating all Monday’s cup draws, will be published on Thursday.

* Bute’s first team saw their first pre-season friendly, away to Strachur on Saturday, postponed because of a frozen pitch.

This Saturday, February 14, Bute’s second team travel to Glendaruel for a friendly against Col-Glen; throw-up is at 1pm.

* Meanwhile, the annual Robert McAlister Memorial junior shinty tournament, for teams in P5 and under and P7 and under, takes place this Sunday, February 15, at Rothesay Pavilion; the action gets under way at 11am.
