Shinty: Celtic Cup draw hands Bute trip to Oban

Bute Shinty Club’s first team have been handed an away tie against Oban Celtic in the first round of this season’s AJG Parcels Celtic Society Cup.

The draw was made on Tuesday morning and will see the winners of that first round tie play Oban Camanachd at Mossfield Park in the tournament’s quarter-finals.

Full draw as follows.

First round: Strachur v Glenorchy, Oban Celtic v Bute, Taynuilt v Aberdour, Kilmory v Ballachulish. Byes - Inveraray, Kyles Athletic, Oban Camanachd, Glasgow Mid Argyll.

Quarter-finals: Glasgow Mid Argyll v Strachur/Glenorchy, Taynuilt/Aberdour v Kyles Athletic, Oban Camanachd v Oban Celtic/Bute, Kilmory/Ballachulish v Inveraray.

Semi-finals: Taynuilt/Aberdour/Kyles Athletic v Glasgow Mid Argyll/Strachur/Glenorchy, Oban Camanachd/Oban Celtic/Bute v Kilmory/Ballachulish/Inveraray.

The final of this year’s tournament will be played in Glasgow on June 28; dates for the early rounds of the competition have yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Bute’s second team were handed byes in the first round of both the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup and the Bullough Cup when the draws for most of the season’s cup competitions were made on Tuesday.

The Sutherland Cup second round draw will be made at a later date, while Bute were drawn against another first round bye - the Army’s shinty team, The Scots, in round two of the Bullough Cup.

The draw for the first round of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup is due to be made in Glasgow this Sunday, February 2, while the full fixture list for the 2014 season, including league fixtures and cup tie dates, is expected to be published next week.
