Bute’s P5 and under shinty team reached the final of the national First Shinty competition in Fort William on Saturday.

The Bute team, who made it through to the finals after winning the three rounds of the Bute and Cowal local tournament during the winter, won every one of their qualifying games on Saturday, beating Strathpeffer, Dunvegan, Strathkelvin, Inverlochy and Kingussie to ensure top spot in their group.

In the semi-final Bute defeated the Glasgow Gaels 3-2, but their hopes of winning the trophy were dashed by a 3-2 defeat against a strong Beauly side in the final.

Coach Iain McDonald said: “The boys were great, and so were all the supporters who made the very long journey to Fort William on Saturday.

“It was most appreciated, and the boys hopefully made them all very proud.”
