Bute Shinty Club’s hopes of a first ever Mod Cup win were comprehensively shattered in Dunoon on Saturday as local rivals Kyles cruised to a 9-1 win.

The annual fixture between the two clubs closest to the Mod’s host town doubled up on Saturday as the last league match of the season for both Kyles and Bute, and a five-goal haul for Kyles’ Roddy MacColl ensured the 2012 trophy would go to Tighnabruaich to sit alongside the Camanachd Cup, won by the club’s first team last month.

Kyles led 3-1 at the break, Ruairaidh Soane’s goal keeping Bute in with a shout, but after the interval the men in blue stretched away to record a comfortable win against a Bute side with a few too many players well short of top form.
