Bute Shinty Club’s first team reached their fourth Balliemore Cup final in ten years on Saturday after a thrilling 5-3 win over Strathglass at Ballachulish.
Robert Walker led the way for the islanders with a four-goal haul as Bute overcame a 3-2 deficit to book their place in the final against either Beauly or Kilmallie next month.
Gordon McMillan gave Bute the lead in the 20th minute, but Josh Fraser levelled ten minutes later to leave the tie level at half time.
Walker re-established Bute’s lead in the first minute of the second half, but the advantage was short-lived, two defensive slip-ups allowing Fraser to complete his hat-trick and put Strathglass ahead for the first time in the space of three minutes.
But Bute, who have won the Balliemore Cup on their last three final appearances - in 2004, 2006 and 2011 - persevered, and Walker completed his fourth hat-trick of the season with further goals in the 73rd and 78th minutes before sealing the win late on.
