RODDIE MIDDLETON and Ali Carmichael found the net on Saturday as Bute’s second team progressed to the semi-finals of the Bullough Cup with a 2-1 win away to Glasgow Mid Argyll.
Middleton opened the scoring against the run of the early play when he knocked in the rebound from close range after a Carmichael shot was saved by the Mid Argyll keeper, but Andy McGhee levelled for the hosts with a well-placed shot which caught Bute keeper John Whitelaw off balance.
Carmichael scored what turned out to be the winner just before the break, when he brought the ball infield from the wing before driving the ball high into the net from a tight angle.
Player-coach David Kilpatrick said of the match: “It was a good end-to-end ding-dong battle in winter conditions, and all the boys were chuffed at getting through to a semi-final.”
Bute’s second team have no game this Saturday, June 23, due to the final of the AJG Parcels Celtic Society Cup, taking place at Strachur.
